I’ve Booked My Beach Portrait Session — Now What?
First of all, thank you for booking a beach portrait session with Shore Beach Portraits! One of the most common questions families have after reserving their session is: “What happens next?”
The good news is that beach sessions are meant to be relaxed, simple, and enjoyable. Below is a quick guide so you know exactly what to expect on the day of your Jersey Shore beach portrait session.
We’ll Meet at the Beach Entrance
On the day of your session, we will meet at the beach entrance closest to the location we’ve discussed. This makes it easy for everyone to find each other and begin the session together.
Once everyone has arrived, we’ll take a few minutes to greet one another and get organized before walking onto the beach.
Communication on the Day of the Session
As your session approaches, the easiest way to communicate is by cell phone text or call.
Beach towns can be busy, especially during the summer season, and sometimes families are arriving from different houses or locations. If you’re running a few minutes behind, can’t find the entrance, or have any questions, simply send a quick text or call and we’ll coordinate.
Keeping communication simple helps the session start smoothly.
Where We’ll Take Photos
One of the best parts about beach photography is the variety of natural backdrops available within just a short walking distance.
We usually begin by taking a few photos along the beach path leading to the sand. The path often has beautiful light and natural textures that make a great starting point.
Once we reach the beach, we’ll continue taking portraits near the end of the path, where the open beach and ocean provide a classic Jersey Shore backdrop.
From there, we often move to a few additional spots that add variety to your gallery.
Near the Dunes
The base of the dunes provides beautiful natural scenery and soft lighting, especially close to sunset. The grasses and sand create a timeless beach setting for family portraits.
Around the Lifeguard Stand and Boat
If conditions allow, we may also take photos near a lifeguard stand or lifeguard boat, which can add a fun and iconic Jersey Shore feel to the images.
These locations help create a nice mix of photographs so your final gallery includes a variety of backgrounds and moments.
And of course on, in and around the beautiful Atlantic Ocean
And if we are lucky the sunset will reflect off of the clouds over the ocean and give us a gorgeous backdrop ! We will enjoy family shots both standing and sitting as well as the candid shots of the kids splashing the ocean.
Relax and Enjoy the Experience
The most important thing to remember is this: relax and take a deep breath.
Many families worry about whether everyone will pose perfectly or whether the kids will cooperate. The truth is that beach portrait sessions are meant to be relaxed and natural.
You don’t need to worry about how to stand, where to look, or what to do with your hands. I’ll guide you through everything step by step so the experience feels comfortable and easy.
Some of the best photographs often come from the moments in between poses—when families are laughing, talking, and simply enjoying being together.
It’s All About Capturing Your Time Together
For many families vacationing at the Jersey Shore, these portraits become some of the most meaningful images they own. They capture a moment in time when everyone is together—kids growing up, grandparents visiting, and families sharing time at the beach.
The goal of your session is simple: to create beautiful, natural photographs while you enjoy the moment.
So when the day arrives, come ready to relax, breathe, and enjoy your time at the shore. The rest will fall into place.
We look forward to photographing your family and creating memories that will last long after your beach vacation ends.
